it looks chaotic, but to me it's organized

This is my first blog. I’m looking forward to blogging. I feel it’s adding another facet to the very absorbing profession of making jewelry by hand. Often, as a solitary maker in my private studio, I feel isolated from the creative world in general. Living in a tiny town in northern New Mexico does not necessarily expose even the most open-minded artsy type person to the pulse of what’s being done ‘out there”–the birth of new movements, the slow death of others. We do have a very vibrant, if insular, art scene here in Taos, and I breathe a sigh of relief every time I have an inspiring conversation with fellow artists/artisans around town, while choosing a just-ripe avocado in the grocery store or getting the tires rotated at the local garage. Some of those encounters help validate my process, especially during those times of self-doubt or downright regret of not having taken on a job early in life that would have put me, at this age, in a different demographic entirely.

At the risk of sounding like a cliché, I can say a life of making stuff is extremely satisfying in ways that go far beyond the paycheck. For now, I think I’ll get back to that bench and finish some projects.
